The traditional holiday open house for the Fondren business district, Fondren Unwrapped, will extend over four days to spread out the crowds with many outside activities.
Festivities are from November 12 through November 15.
“In a year that is unprecedented, unhinged, unexpected and unforgettable, Fondren’s business district’s traditional holiday open house is more ‘unwrapped’ than ever before,” notes organizer Barry Plunkett of Interiors Market.
With more than 16 places to shop, and 36 places to eat and drink, the district will be staging event different this year.
“For starters, the health and safety of our shoppers and visitors will be at the forefront of everything we do,” Plunkett said. Masks plus social distancing are required and many activities are planned for outdoors. The number of customers within the retail shops will be limited to comply with health regulations.
An to help avoid crowded stores, the event will take place over four days instead of one evening. There will be activities appealing to difference groups. “For example, those who like the feeling of brisk evening shopping and the old fashioned smell of cider, Thursday night is for them with many of the stores staying open til 8 p.m. for early Christmas shopping.” Saturday’s event with feature Santa. “Sunday afternoon shopping and strolling will provide a unique and calm outing for those who prefer a more leisurely activity.” The restaurants will be open throughout the four day event.
Refreshments, when served, will be done safely. During some of the events, there will be sidewalk stations for hot cider and eggnog.
“This is actually a great opportunity to broaden Fondren Unwrapped,” said Plunkett. “It will not be just one night. In addition to our Thursday night open houses, we are adding outdoor lighting events. The arrival of Santa will occur with a mini-parade on Friday. Shops will be open Saturday during the day and Sunday afternoon with special offerings and gift ideas.”
Friday evening will include a music concert. On Saturday COVID testing and other health screenings will be offered, and will kick off the day with an “UnRun.”
