Norman Albert Mott, Jr., retired third generation Publisher and Editor of The Yazoo City Herald, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at St. Dominic Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Mott had been an independent resident of The Orchard in Ridgeland, MS since 2012.

MADISON ~ Richard Ansley Farr, Jr, lovingly known as “Papa”, 92, of Madison, MS passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home.

Richard was born in Meridian, MS, July 30, 1926 to Treba Toinette Nichols and Richard Ansley Farr, Sr.

Sarah Kathleen Posey Smith was born June 13, 1924, in Philadelphia. Her parents, John Leonard Posey and Nellie Tingle Posey, were life-long residents of Neshoba County. She had two sisters, the late J’Nell Posey Coffman and Betty Ann Posey Gardner of Wilmington, DE.


Jerome Wayne Smith

Jerome Wayne Smith, (November 3, 1920-June 9, 2019) was born in Mt. Olive, MS and died at home in Jackson surrounded by his loving family.  Raised in Noxapater, MS., he was the second of five children born to Nannie and Ennis Smith.  He was a standout athlete earning a basketball scholarship to Wood Jr.

It’s not every day that a third-grader, now a rising fourth-grader, gives away his birthday, let alone adopts an endangered animal across the country. Yet that’s exactly what St. Andrew’s Episcopal School student Jacob Bullock has done for the past year.

Ann Klaus Holloman, 80, passed away Sunday May 19. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday May 22 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland followed by a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.





Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.

McCormack will continue in competition to be a finalist for Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring. She is the daughter of Kimberly McCormack of Jackson and Jess and Mark McCormack of Madison.


Northside Drive Plans

Jackson will likely seek help from the one-percent oversight commission to help repave East Northside Drive.

The city recently opened bids for the mill and overlay project, all of which came in hundreds of thousands of dollars over budget.

Contact advisory expanded to Belhaven Creek, Big Creek

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) revised its general water contact advisory for the Jackson area to include Big Creek and Belhaven Creek, including a sandbar called “Belhaven Beach,” where it flows into the Pearl River.  These two water bodies are added to the original advisory issued May 16 based on

The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and Museum of Mississippi History received the Mississippi Travel Attraction of the Year Award during the 2018 Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Oxford. The annual conference, organized by the Mississippi Tourism Association (MTA), presents awards for tourism achievement.
