Fireworks to fill Northside skies at Independence Day celebrations

The sky will be bright with fireworks as Fourth of July celebrations kick off this weekend.

So, don your red, white and blue and all things star spangled and head out to one of the various Independence Day events across North Jackson and south Madison County.

There is something for everyone to enjoy in true patriotic fashion.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.





Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers. 



Josie Bidwell on lifestyle medicine

Josie Bidwell is associate professor of nursing and lifestyle medicine clinician for the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in nursing from UMMC. Bidwell spoke to Sun Staff Writer Anthony Warren about her position and about the school’s lifestyle medicine clinic.

The secret garden

Garden Club of Jackson member and rose expert, Miriam Ethridge, has selected several of her favorite antique roses for purchase in The Secret Garden gift shop.  Miriam will be on hand to offer tips on these hardier varieties.  The Secret Garden is part of the club’s fund-raiser, scheduled April 20-21, will also offer garden tools, original artw

Celebrates 101 years

Ouida Williamson (left) gets a big hug from Eva Hart, director of Reflections Choir at First Baptist Church-Jackson. Williamson celebrated her 101st birthday recently and is one of only three church members who are 100 years old or older.


Eagle Scout

Henry Greaves Jr.  (center) was recognized for earning his Eagle Scout rank at the May Court of Honor at First Baptist Church of Jackson. His Eagle Project benefitted Gateway Rescue Mission.  Greaves is a member of Troop 8 at First Baptist Jackson and is in the ninth-grade. He is shown with his parents Henry and Lisa Greaves.
