Jackson seeks to dismiss attorneys, charges in water shutoff case

Jackson has filed a response in Hinds County Chancery Court today asking the court to disqualify council in the water shutoff case.

The city is asking the court to dismiss plaintiff attorneys Pieter Teeuwissen, Anthony Simon and Jeffrey M. Graves, the attorneys representing six customers who filed suit against the city recently.




Construction underway on Rankin wastewater plant; city to lose major account

Construction is moving along as scheduled on a new wastewater treatment plant for the West Rankin Utility Authority (WRUA).

The authority generates about 10 million to 12 million gallons of wastewater each day, which is transmitted to the Savanna Street Wastewater Treatment Plant in Jackson.

A complete overhaul of Jackson’s mass transit system is in the works, with city officials expected to seek out a consultant in the coming weeks to help determine the system’s needs.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.





Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers. 



Josie Bidwell on lifestyle medicine

Josie Bidwell is associate professor of nursing and lifestyle medicine clinician for the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in nursing from UMMC. Bidwell spoke to Sun Staff Writer Anthony Warren about her position and about the school’s lifestyle medicine clinic.

LeFleur East sells Creekmore house

A local neighborhood group has scrapped plans to use a former home on Old Canton Road for an event and office space, and is now looking for a new location.

The LeFleur East House, a two-story home at 4658 Old Canton, has been deeded to James Holt Crews, of Jackson, according to Hinds County Chancery Clerk records.
