Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.




Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers. 




Josie Bidwell on lifestyle medicine

Josie Bidwell is associate professor of nursing and lifestyle medicine clinician for the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in nursing from UMMC. Bidwell spoke to Sun Staff Writer Anthony Warren about her position and about the school’s lifestyle medicine clinic.

Awarded scholarship

The Harmon and Faye Bowman Memorial Scholarship is awarded to two senior high students at Jackson Academy who indicate the promise of success in personal endeavors through leadership potential and an entrepreneurial spirit. Felony job applicants

It is a worthwhile goal to put ex-felons to work, so as to reduce the chance that they will resort again to crime.

The pursuit of this goal, however, should not be used to hamstring an employer’s legitimate need to know pertinent information about job applicants, including whether they have been convicted of felonies in the past.


Rotary fellow

Jared Pierce, (right) a member of the Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club, received his Paul Harris Fellowship pin during a recent meeting. The distinction is awarded after a $1,000 level of giving to the Rotary International Foundation is attained. Shown with Pierce is club President Sharon Moulder.


Northside Drive Plans

Jackson will likely seek help from the one-percent oversight commission to help repave East Northside Drive.

The city recently opened bids for the mill and overlay project, all of which came in hundreds of thousands of dollars over budget.

Rebecca Cravat Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently met for their final meeting of the year at the home of Saundra Dewey (right.) Donna Russell (left) introduced the speaker, Lynn Porter (center). Mrs. Porter is a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in agriculture and horticulture.
