The City of Jackson Water Sewer Business Administration has been alerted that one of its employees may have been fraudulently posing as a WSBA Customer Service Representative and collecting cash payments from WSBA customers at their homes and/or businesses.

Ann Klaus Holloman, 80, a long-time resident of Jackson, MS, died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Madison, on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Ann was the daughter of Edith Calmes Klaus and Julius L. Klaus, Jr., of Macon, MS.

Renaissance to feature new show fountain, theater and Costco

The second and third phases of Renaissance are on track to be finished next year, complete with another show fountain and Malco theater.

The city of Ridgeland director of community development Alan Hart said, based on reports from the developer, that phase two of Renaissance should be open by summer or fall of 2019.





Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.

Dealership requests to be left out of Gluckstadt and Canton annexation issue

The Gluckstadt incorporation is making slow and steady progress, but there is one commercial entity that wants to stay out of the issue.

The Mak Haik car dealership, located north of Glucksadt Road and west of I-55, does not want to be part of the incorporation. The car dealer does not want to be part of Canton’s annexation either.


Court denies R’land request

Opponents of the Ridgeland Costco Wholesale scored a minor victory recently in their efforts to keep the wholesaler from locating on Highland Colony Parkway.

Last week, the Mississippi Supreme Court denied the city of Ridgeland’s request to expedite the appeal of the city’s 2015 vote to amend the zoning ordinance.

Jackson proposing doing away with minority firm quotas

An ordinance that establishes quotas for hiring minority firms in the city of Jackson could soon be on its way out.

Jackson officials are hoping to replace the city’s Equal Business Opportunity (EBO) ordinance with a new “small and disadvantaged business” program.


Leslie Lampton’s life showed value of free enterprise

Within the span of a couple of weeks, the Northside lost the patriarch and matriarch of one of our most prominent families, the Lamptons.

Leslie B. Lampton was founder of Ergon, which has 2,600 employees in Mississippi, 29 other states, and several other countries. Dorothy Lee Crum Lampton was his wife for 69 years.



Josie Bidwell on lifestyle medicine

Josie Bidwell is associate professor of nursing and lifestyle medicine clinician for the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in nursing from UMMC. Bidwell spoke to Sun Staff Writer Anthony Warren about her position and about the school’s lifestyle medicine clinic.
