Jacob Bullock gives away birthday to adopt Lemur at Duke University

It’s not every day that a third-grader, now a rising fourth-grader, gives away his birthday, let alone adopts an endangered animal across the country. Yet that’s exactly what St. Andrew’s Episcopal School student Jacob Bullock has done for the past year.

Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.

Garret Grove

Garret Grove,  St. Joseph Catholic School senior,  has been named Mississippi’s High School Journalist of the Year by the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association. Grove is a reporter, anchor and weathercaster for St. Joe’s award-winning, student-produced, weekly newscast Bruin News Now.

Paul Harris Fellows

Two members of the Rotary Club of North Jackson, Sara White and Jay Cooke, were recently awarded Paul Harris Fellows. The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.

Shearer overcomes back injury to continue love of dance at Indiana University

What at one point seemed impossible for a young ballerina has now become a reality.

After suffering a back injury, Mary Kate Shearer is attending Indiana University Bloomington and is now part of the ballet program at the Jacobs School of Music.
