St. Dominic's president stepping down

(May 21, 2019,  Jackson, Miss.) Claude W. Harbarger, FACHE, has informed St. Dominic’s leadership, medical staff and employees of his intention to retire as the President of St. Dominic Health Services, Inc. (SDHS or St. Dominic’s) effective June 30, 2019 after having served the St. Dominic’s organization for the past 32 years.

Renaissance construction

Construction is on track for the second and third phases of Renaissance, complete with a show fountain and Malco theater.

Phase two of Renaissance is projected to be complete sometime this summer or early fall.

The Costco portion of phase three and four should be complete by next summer.





Ridgewood Road blocked by tree

All four lanes of Ridgewood Road are blocked, just in time for school to let out.

A tree fell down, blocking all four lanes near Ridgewood Road and Northside Drive, as a result of today’s storms.

Power lines and other utilities were taken out with the fall. Vehicles were being forced to turn around, and all lanes were blocked.



Riverside project stymied by lack of funding and unforeseen issues

Four years after it was approved by Jackson’s one-percent oversight commission, the Riverside Drive Reconstruction Project has yet to get off the drawing board.

Part of the reason is the city is still determining how to pay for it. Part of it is the second phase might require more work than initially expected.


Gluckstadt faces more opposition to becoming state's newest city

The legal battle over Gluckstadt incorporation wages on, as the city of Canton has filed a cross appeal against the 2018 jurisdictional ruling and the 2019 final decree granting incorporation. 

A local business owner, Ron Hutchinson, also filed an appeal before the 10-day appeals window closed on April 22.

Baroque ensemble concert continues group’s tradition of outstanding performances

More Mississippians need to discover one of the state’s “best-kept secrets,” the Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music (MA’AM), which continues to outdo itself in bringing the top world-class performers of medieval, Renaissance, baroque and early classical music to various venues in central Mississippi.

After suffering a back injury, Mary Kate Shearer is attending Indiana University Bloomington and is now part of the ballet program at the Jacobs School of Music.
