A conversation with Suzannah Britt on Hospice Ministries

Hospice Ministries of Central Mississ-ippi celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Suzannah Britt, the group’s executive director, has worked in various roles with the nonprofit, and recently reflected on the group in an interview with the Sun. Britt is a graduate of Co-Lin Community College and the University of Southern Mississi-ppi.

Lane Spell Rosson

Lane Spell Rosson, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at home in Ridgeland, MS, surrounded by friends and family including her son, Bert Rosson Jr., her sister, Suzanne Case of McComb and niece Rebecca Case Lawler of New Orleans.

Another individual has been charged with stealing Jackson water

Jackson’s investigation into the water/sewer billing department continues to lead to arrests.

Today, another suspect, Willie McClendon, 64, was charged in connection with having an illegal hookup at his residence.

According to JPD’s Twitter account, the hookup had been in place for a “substantial period.”

Established overlay districts proving successful for Jackson.

Eastover residents continue to enjoy their large yards and dense tree canopies almost eight years after an overlay district was expanded in the area to protect them.

Alaina Liess, a senior at  St. Joseph Catholic School, has been named a STAR student for the 2018-2019 school year. Susie Odom, English teacher, has been named a STAR teacher.



Richard Ward Dortch

Richard Ward Dortch, lifelong resident of Jackson, Mississippi, died peacefully on September 18, 2019 following a brief illness. Because of his tall stature and playful nature, younger generations called him “Big Richard,” and even younger ones shortened the nickname to simply “Big.” He was 83.

Michel still wants neighborhood improvement district

District 25 Sen. Walter Michel hopes the fourth time will be the charm when it comes to seeing a “neighborhood improvement district” bill passed.

The Northside senator is planning to introduce a bill creating the NIDs in the 2018 session.

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.
