A complete overhaul of Jackson’s mass transit system is in the works, with city officials expected to seek out a consultant in the coming weeks to help determine the system’s needs.

Landon Watson (center) was recognized for earning his Eagle Scout rank at Troop 8’s May Court of Honor at First Baptist Church of Jackson. His Eagle project developed a sensory path for Highland Bluff Elementary School. He is shown with his parents Florance Bass and Samuel C. Watson.

Stickfire

Reunion Golf and Country Club hosted its annual Stickfire Golf Tournament recently with a record 108 players competing. The tournament is played every year in the name of the late Stan Hall, who was a member at Reunion when he suddenly passed away at his home January 16, 2016.


Kinkead Dent

Kinkead Dent, Jackson Academy senior, signed to play college football at the University of Mississippi at a ceremony held in early December. Dent is the son of Carolyn and John Dent.

Kapok Tree Birds

St. Richard third grade students presented a play based on the book “The Great Kapok Tree” while studying biomes. Students created the set and their costumes based on their research of plants and animals in the Amazon Rainforest. The Rotary Club of North Jackson’s Vice President Greg Campbell spoke at a recent club meeting informing members and guests about the recent Rotary service trip he took with other Rotarians from RI District 6820 to Guadalajara, Mexico.


Speech and debate

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s speech and debate team recently completed a four-week run of competition that included competing at Barkley Forum in Atlanta before beginning the qualifying process for the various national tournaments with the Magnolia Forensic League District Congress Qualifier, held at Jackson Prep.
