Fireworks to fill Northside skies at Independence Day celebrations

The sky will be bright with fireworks as Fourth of July celebrations kick off this weekend.

So, don your red, white and blue and all things star spangled and head out to one of the various Independence Day events across North Jackson and south Madison County.

There is something for everyone to enjoy in true patriotic fashion.

PGA Junior match

The Country Club Of Jackson Gators prevailed over the Reunion Golf & Country Club’s Reunion Rush on their final match this year for the PGA Junior League.  Reunion hosted the match. PGA Junior League is about the recreational and developmental nature of regular season matches.


Awarded Eagle

Blake Fletcher (center) was recognized for earning his Eagle Scout rank at Troop 8’s Court of Honor at First Baptist Church of Jackson. His Eagle Project created a habitat shelter for the Opportunity Center in West Jackson. He is shown with his parents Spence and Ruth Fletcher.


Most artistic

Jackson Prep recently held its Precis Pageant. Students voted Most Artistic were (from left) Eleanor Baker and Jonathan Booker.

 


Most Creative

First Presbyterian Day School sixth-graders (from left) Lauren Hand and Preston Marion were chosen Most Creative by their classmates.


Rotary speaker

Chance L. McDavid, division director of the asset development division of the Mississippi Development Authority spoke to the Rotary Club of North Jackson recently. McDavid informed club members and guest about asset community development and some of the communities in Mississippi that have success with it.



Professional storyteller

Recently, Diane Williams, a member of the Mississippi Humanities Council, was the guest speaker for the Annandale Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.  Diane presented her program entitled “The Historic Journey of African American Quilters”.  A professional storyteller since 1992, Williams’ talents include fiber artwork and poetry.

LeFleur East sells Creekmore house

A local neighborhood group has scrapped plans to use a former home on Old Canton Road for an event and office space, and is now looking for a new location.

The LeFleur East House, a two-story home at 4658 Old Canton, has been deeded to James Holt Crews, of Jackson, according to Hinds County Chancery Clerk records.
