Zoo blues

Auditors recently wrapped up an investigation of the Jackson Zoo’s finances, and one thing is clear, Beth Poff took one for the team.

Poff is the park’s former executive director. She resigned from the position last year after admitting to misusing $350,000 in state bond funds to cover operations.

Day in the Country

The Chapel of the Cross will host the 40th Annual Day in the Country festival  Saturday, October 5 on the historic Chapel grounds at 674 Mannsdale Rd., Madison, Mississippi. The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with the Day in the Country 5K run and walk. The festival follows from 9 a.m.

District 25 Sen. Walter Michel hopes the fourth time will be the charm when it comes to seeing a “neighborhood improvement district” bill passed.

Beemon Drugs closing

Beemon Drugs Owner Lester Hailey has announced that the iconic North Jackson drug store will be closing on June 25. 

A notice was posted at the Maywood Mart institution today. 

The store, which has been a staple on the Northside for years, is known for providing home delivery of medications to customers.
