Book fiasco

After allowing the books at the Charles Tisdale Library to rot, it now appears that the Jackson-Hinds Library System will let the city of Jackson foot the bill for disposing of them.

Last month, the Jackson-Hinds board of trustees voted to abandon its interests in the E. Northside Drive facility, effective September 30.


Hole in One

The Sanderson Farms Championship is under way, and even for the casual golf fan, the tournament has a lot to offer.

The tournament runs through September 22 at the Country Club of Jackson and features some of the biggest names in professional golf.


Dog Days of Summer

Short as the walk that ends the night                 

“You’re a good girl. Now behave yourself.” 

I tighten the leash, stop a moment to catch my breath, bend over and pet the dog.  “We should be able to finish our walk, then I have some things to take care of before I, ‘make it to the church on time,’” I hum.


World Peace

The Montessori Academy of Jackson recently celebrated World Peace Day.  Participating were (from left) Lincoln Songcharoen, John Hudson Abel, Jake Aldy, Emmerson Laschanzky, Blue Harper Mitchel, Rio Horlings, and Carter Woodruff.

Airport land annexation hearing scheduled Jan. 24; two cities want property

The first scheduled hearing in the annexation case involving the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport is slated for January 24.

Two cities, Flowood and Pearl, are attempting to annex land surrounding Jackson-Evers, in what city of Jackson officials call a “tax grab.”



Phoenix Club board

The Phoenix Club of Jackson is a group of young professional men who support the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi through fundraising events and campaigns. Its members are business, social and philanthropic leaders who strive to help their community’s youth.
