After plateauing in recent years, junior golf on the Northside again appears to be on the upswing.


New Hinds County DA

Hinds County will be getting a new District Attorney just as it faces a murder rate not seen since the crack years of the early 1990s. Ironically, the new DA, Jody Owens, led the Southern Poverty Law Center’s lawsuit against Mississippi for prison reform. That’s not exaclty a lock-’em-up resume.

Solar energy

Joshua Green

A true southern gentleman, Joshua Green, Esquire, passed away on August 11, 2019. His family will greatly miss our wise, generous uncle, who as the repository of our family lore, was our treasured storyteller, brilliant wit and raconteur.


Cain scholarship

Jackson Academy students Courtney Francois, Sandon Guild, and Zoe Ladner received the Glenn Cain scholarship, which was established in honor of the third headmaster of JA, Glenn Cain. The scholarship is based on academic performance, school citizenship, and service to the institution. The award was for the 2018-19 school year.

Airport land annexation hearing scheduled Jan. 24; two cities want property

The first scheduled hearing in the annexation case involving the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport is slated for January 24.

Two cities, Flowood and Pearl, are attempting to annex land surrounding Jackson-Evers, in what city of Jackson officials call a “tax grab.”



LeFleur East sells Creekmore house

A local neighborhood group has scrapped plans to use a former home on Old Canton Road for an event and office space, and is now looking for a new location.

The LeFleur East House, a two-story home at 4658 Old Canton, has been deeded to James Holt Crews, of Jackson, according to Hinds County Chancery Clerk records.
