Fireworks to fill Northside skies at Independence Day celebrations

The sky will be bright with fireworks as Fourth of July celebrations kick off this weekend.

So, don your red, white and blue and all things star spangled and head out to one of the various Independence Day events across North Jackson and south Madison County.

There is something for everyone to enjoy in true patriotic fashion.

Ridgeland’s farmers’ market slated to end in December extended because of success

The city of Ridgeland’s weekly farmers’ market, True Local Market, has been extended into the new year.

True Local Market began in October and was expected to run through the end of December 2018. However, due to the success of the market, it will continue.

Northside student’s article on insulin published in national scientific journal

Arko Dhar, a student at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, recently published a scientific manuscript titled, “Development of Diet-Induced Insulin Resistance in Drosophila melanogaster and Characterization of Anti-Diabetic Effects of Resveratrol and Pterostilbene” in the Journal of Emerging Investigators.


RIDGELAND MUNICIPAL COURT TO OFFER FEE WAIVER PROGRAM FOR OUTSTANDING ARREST WARRANTS ON CONTEMPT OF COURT

The Ridgeland Police Department in conjunction with Ridgeland Municipal Court will offer a Fee Waiver Program for individuals with arrest warrants for Contempt of Court (Failure to Appear). This period will begin Tuesday, February 19th and end Friday, March 1st, 2019.

Fondren Contract Extended

Contractors will have additional time and funds to complete the Fondren streetscape project.

The Jackson City Council recently approved amending its agreement with Hemphill Construction, to allow an additional 65 days and $140,000, to cover cost overruns and unforeseen delays related to the project.

Luck of the Draw

The eighth annual art benefit for the Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi, A Luck of the Draw, will be held January 31, 6 to 9 p.m. at the ag museum. Admission tickets are $50; limited draw tickets, $100 which guarantees a piece of art.

SWIM CHAMPS

St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s swim teams recently competed in the State Meet in Tupelo. The girls team brought home the state championship title, and the boys came in second place.


CELEBRATE FOUNDING

Jackson alumnae members of the national Alpha Chi Omega collegiate sorority recently met for a luncheon to celebrate the founding of the fraternity in 1885. Alpha Chi Omega currently has more than 280 alumnae chapters across the United States and is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.
