Confederate heroes

The W. D. Holder Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Jefferson Davis Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans held a joint Confederate Heroes Luncheon recently at a local restaurant.  Guest speaker was the Rev. Glenn Shows, who presented a program on “Battle of Cotton Bales at Red Lick, MS on July 4, 1864”.


Desoto key to runoff

The runoff for the Republican nomination governor was already bound to be interesting: Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, a leader of the legislative branch, vs. Bill Waller Jr., the former leader of the state’s judicial branch.





Citizenship Award

Ann Reese McDonnieal

Ann Reese McDonnieal of Jackson passed away on August 29, 2019. Visitation will be held at noon on September 4 with the funeral following at 2:00 p.m. at Northminster Baptist Church. The daughter of Raymond Leslie Reese and Mary Eunice Barton Reese, Ann McDonnieal was born in Ruston, Louisiana in 1927.


Student council

Adrienne Stewart, served as co-president of the Education Center School student council. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Stewart. Trevor Clayton, son of Tiffanie Young, served as the senior class representative on the ECS student council for the 2018-2019 school year.

Gerard Gibert on Mississippi Lottery

Gerard Gibert, a resident of Ridgeland, was recently named to the Mississippi lottery board of directors. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in economics from the University of Mississippi. He is the CEO of Venture Technology. Gibert recently spoke with Sun reporter Nikki Rowell about the Mississippi lottery.

LeFleur East sells Creekmore house

A local neighborhood group has scrapped plans to use a former home on Old Canton Road for an event and office space, and is now looking for a new location.

The LeFleur East House, a two-story home at 4658 Old Canton, has been deeded to James Holt Crews, of Jackson, according to Hinds County Chancery Clerk records.



RIDGELAND MUNICIPAL COURT TO OFFER FEE WAIVER PROGRAM FOR OUTSTANDING ARREST WARRANTS ON CONTEMPT OF COURT

The Ridgeland Police Department in conjunction with Ridgeland Municipal Court will offer a Fee Waiver Program for individuals with arrest warrants for Contempt of Court (Failure to Appear). This period will begin Tuesday, February 19th and end Friday, March 1st, 2019.
