Willie Lee S. Kroeze

Graveside services were held October 4 at Lakewood Memorial Park for Willie Lee S. Kroeze. Dr. Josh Cole, pastor, Covenant Presbyterian Church, officiated.

Kroeze, 87, died October 1 at Baptist Hospital.

A native of Baton Rouge,  she was born May 18, 1931.  She was a graduate of Central High School and attended the University of Oklahoma and the University of Mississippi.  She was very active in the Jackson community participating in many civic organizations and social clubs.  She and her late husband were founding members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.  For years, Willie worked in the women’s department at Stein Mart on I-55.  It was there she made many new friendships.  She retired in 2015.

She is preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, John O. Kroeze Sr., in 2015; her daughter Lee Kroeze; and her sisters Doris Lindley and Gloria Davis.

She is survived by her son, John O. Kroeze Jr. and the mother of his children, Kim Kroeze; grandsons Zackery Athearn (Brooke Foster), Chris Kroeze, and Michael Kroeze; great-granddaughter Adeline Athearn; nephews Jud Kroeze, Will Davis, and Eddie Davis; nieces Lisa Gilbert and Lynn Herlihy; sisters-in-law Jean Gilbert and Barbara Kroeze and other extended family.



Two area high schools have started what will be an annual competition to raise money for waterfowl conservation.
