Gleaners’ work

The Gleaners, Inc., distributed 1,009,764 pounds of food to more than 40 charitable agencies in the metro area in 2018. Around 45 volunteers serve the hungry year-round, Monday through Saturday, by driving eight trucks to pick up donated foods from wholesale food distributors and retail establishments. They then sort and package, so shelters can pick up selections for residents’ meals. A new sign was installed at their 237 Briarwood Dr., Jackson, address. Anyone interested in volunteering should call 601-956-4740 or email gleanersjackson@yahoo.com. Shown with the new sign are (from left, back) Samuel Bryant, James Oswalt, Walter Jones, David Dickenson; (front) Bobbie Artigues, Ed Spencer, Nancy Willis, Fran Smith, Phyllis Henson and Terrell Brown.
