Special Olympics mission

The Rotary Club of Jackson welcomed Monica Daniels, executive director of Special Olympics Mississippi as a guest speaker at a recent meeting. Daniels spent many years working with the Magnolia Speech School as a result of her child’s deafness, which led her to work with the United Way and then Special Olympics. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
