Rebekah Browning Barber

Rebekah Browning Barber, age 72, passed away very unexpectedly, on May 31 at her home in Madison, Mississippi. Visitation will be June 4, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway with services at 11 a.m. A private family graveside service will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park. Pastors Barry Male Jr. and Linda Rickman will officiate.

Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Mildred Browning, her beloved grandmother, Lillian Oakley and her sister, Nancy Long.

In addition to her husband, Jerry L. Barber, she is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Barber Evans, husband David A. Evans, III of Oxford, and Beverly Barber Oden, husband Dr. Gregory Oden of Ridgeland. She leaves behind five grandchildren: David and Annelise Evans and Gregory, Preston, and Josh Oden.

Mrs. Barber was born September 22, 1945, in Booneville. She was graduated from Booneville High School in 1963 and attended North Alabama University.

Mrs. Barber met her future husband and soul mate in July 1962 and it was love at first sight for them both. They were married January 31, 1964 and were happily married and devoted to each other for 54 years. Mrs. Barber and her husband traveled extensively throughout the world and the United States.

Mrs. Barber was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her flower garden and collecting fine antiques. She was a member of Madison United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

We are fortunate to attend a small church with a tight-knit congregation. Our children’s committee hosts a baby shower for each expectant family in our church and invites the entire congregation.
