Bane and Shepherd exchange wedding vows December 22 in Oxford

Margaret Randle Bane and James Martin Shepherd were wed December 22 at the Oxford-University United Methodist Church in Oxford. The Very Rev. David A. Elliott III of Jackson officiated at the double-ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Michael Bane of Jackson. She is the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. John Roy Bane of Jackson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pat Brooks of Cleveland.

Shepherd is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Banks Shepherd III of Jackson. He is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Banks Shepherd Jr. of Aberdeen and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bell Rosser III of Oxford and Virginia Moore Rosser of Vicksburg.

Collins Hartfield Mounger and Olivia Megan Maxwell were program attendants. Music was presented by Anita Ludlow, organist; Jesse Gibens, trumpeter; and Brady Bramlett vocalist. Mary Elise Kirkpatrick and Virginia Hawthorne Terry read from Scripture.

Escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a designer trumpet gown of nude, silver checkered tulle with a chapel train. Her cathedral length veil was of ivory illusion. The bride carried a bouquet of white stephanotis and roses wrapped in satin and pearls. The bridesmaids carried similar bouquets.

Maid of honor was her sister Laurel Leigh Bane. Matrons of honor were Kate Kirkpatrick Heflin and Rachel Dunlap Jones. Bridesmaids were Bess Bouchelle Ager, Camille Jacqueline Cannada, Simmons Renee Haguewood, Elizabeth Mead Randall, Rachael Jordan Burrow, Mary Cameron Dogan, Grace Anne Joseph and Laura Carolyn Sorey. They wore black gowns.

Proxy bride was Alice Ruth Kemp, cousin of the bride.


The bridegroom’s father, and brother Thomas Banks Shepherd IV, were best men. Groomsmen included Matthew Brian Alias, John Redden Carpenter, Gray Aaron Emery, James Robert House, Ryan Walker Riley, Jacob Coker VanAusdall, Robert Lane Bobo, Reed Adams Ellis, William Henry Freeman, Chase Templeton Miller, Bryant Alexander Salmon, Gray Davis Watt and John Harrison York. Luke Elias Abraham served as usher.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the Chancellor’s House. Creativity of Atlanta presented the music.

Friends of the couple hosted an engagement party at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Vic Applewhite in Ridgeland June 15. The day prior to the wedding, friends of the bride honored the bride and her bridesmaids with a bridesmaids luncheon at McEwens. That evening, the bridegroom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner and post-toast at City Grocery. The morning of the wedding, a brunch was held for the bridesmaids at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Tyner while the groomsmen were entertained at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Abraham.

The couple lives in Nashville, where the bride is a registered nurse at Saint Thomas Hospital and the bridegroom is attending Vanderbilt School of Law.
