Cole, McPherson exchange wedding vows on June 16

Laura Jane Cole and Jones Poindexter McPherson were united in marriage June 16 at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville. The ceremony was held on the lawn of Seely Pavilion surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hunt Cole Jr. of Jackson. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dalton McBee of Greenwood and the late Mrs. Hubert Gardner and the late Tom Hunt Cole of New Albany. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John William McPherson Jr. of Indianola. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Richmond Lewis Scott Poindexter Jr. of Inverness and Mrs. John William McPherson and the late Mr. McPherson of Indianola.

The double ring ceremony was officiated by the bridegroom’s aunt, the Rev. Deacon Mary Howard King. Nuptial music was presented by Karen Rose, violinist; and Amanda Rose, harpist.

Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory Lyon lace bridal gown. Her trumpet style gown featured a sweetheart neckline with illusion cap sleeves. The lace detailing cascaded into a soft, tulle skirt. Her veil was single sheer illusion. The bride carried a loose bouquet of roses, peonies, hydrangeas, and ranunculus in whites and creams and accented with fresh greenery. An antique piece of lace, belonging to her maternal grandmother, was wrapped around her bouquet.

Maid of honor was the bride’s sister, Anne Fisher Cole. She wore a pale blue chiffon dress and carried a bouquet of roses and hydrangeas.


The bridegroom’s father, and brother John William McPherson III were best men. The flower girl was the bridegroom’s niece, Ann Chamberlin Banahan, who carried a moss-covered basket filled with white rose petals. The ring bearer was the bride’s cousin, Dalton King McBee. Michael Gresham and Molly Crenshaw read passages from the New Testament.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception in the Pavilion. The band Cashmere presented the music.

On the eve of the wedding, the bridegroom’s parents hosted a wedding celebration at The Century Room in Asheville.

Following a wedding trip to Antigua, the couple is at home in Memphis.
