Miss Day and Thomas planning December 29 wedding in Birmingham

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Day VI of Birmingham announce the engagement of their daughter, Olivia Irene Day, to Daniel Lakin Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel McMillan Thomas Jr., of Jackson.

The bride- elect is the granddaughter of Mr. And Mrs. Charles A. Baisch of Vestavia Hills, Ala., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Day V of Maplesville, Ala.

The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. Clinton H. Graves of Starkville, and the late Dr. and Mrs. Daniel McMillan Thomas of Forest and Rose Thomas of Bay Springs.

Miss Day attended Oak Mountain High School and was graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 2013. She was selected Distinguished Young Woman from West Jackson County, and first runner-up in the statewide competition. She was graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. At Alabama she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Miss Day is an environmental engineer for Valero Energy in San Francisco Bay Area.

Thomas was graduated from Jackson Academy in 2011. He was graduated from Mississippi State University, Adkerson School of Accountancy with a Bachelor’s of Accountancy and a minor in religion in 2015, and a Master’s of Accountancy in 2016. He is a Certified Public Accountant with KPMG in Memphis. He will transfer to the San Francisco Bay office of KPMG this fall. At State he was a member of Shackouls Honors College and Beta Upsilon Chi fraternity, where he served as secretary and president.


The couple will exchange vows December 29 in Birmingham.


Robert H. Watson will receive Mississippi College’s Award of Excellence at the university’s 2018 homecoming.

Activities include an October 26 awards banquet at Anderson Hall.
