TrustCare Health, a walk-in healthcare clinic provider in Mississippi, is now offering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5 through 11 at its TrustCare Kids location at 101 Lexington Drive in Madison.
Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule a vaccination in advance for their child by visiting www.trustcarekids.com and following some simple instructions. Vaccines will also be available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
TrustCare Kids healthcare providers will administer the two-dose Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 children’s vaccine that contains the same active ingredients given to adults and adolescents, but in an age-appropriate dose that is one-third the amount. Vaccinated children will need to return for their second shot three weeks after receiving their first one.
Pfizer booster shots (third dose) are available to eligible adults at TrustCare Kids, enabling the entire family to get vaccinated during a single clinic visit. (Learn more about the Pfizer children’s vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at www.cdc.gov.)
“It is impossible to predict if a child will or will not get COVID, which is why prevention is so important,” said Dr. Cathie Phillippi, pediatrician at TrustCare Kids. “What we do know is this children’s dose vaccine has a better than 90 percent chance of preventing a child from getting and spreading the virus. Furthermore, even if a vaccinated child does get COVID-19, a vaccine could prevent them from becoming severely ill or experiencing short term or long-term complications.”
Phillippi said the COVID-19 children’s vaccine will enable kids to attend school, have playdates and participate in sports and other group activities more safely and with more regularity.
“I want schools to be open for good so our kids can return to having normal childhoods again with access to activities in group settings,” she said. “But this will not happen with any consistency until we commit to trusting the science and get vaccinated. I have seen how devastating this virus can be to children, which is why I say to parents ‘the choice is yours, but you don’t get a do-over.'"
“TrustCare has been a leader in COVID testing and vaccinations since the pandemic’s onset and will continue helping people stay safe during this uncertain time. We are pleased to offer this service to children and their families, who may otherwise not have quick, convenient access to the vaccine,” said TrustCare President & CEO Warren Herring.
Herring said this initiative further illustrates TrustCare’s commitment to giving people in Mississippi swift access to top-notch healthcare they deserve and need to feel better faster. The vision for TrustCare Health’s clinics began in 2012 with the recognition that most Mississippians were not able to receive prompt medical care seven days a week, forcing them to waste time and money in an emergency room for non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
Headquartered in Ridgeland, TrustCare Health operates clinics in Jackson, Ridgeland, Flowood, Brandon, Clinton, Laurel, Hattiesburg as well as in Birmingham, Alabama and Vestavia Hills, Alabama and a pediatric care facility, TrustCare Kids, in Madison.
TrustCare’s physicians and certified nurse practitioners treat illnesses and injuries ranging from allergic reactions, asthma, flu, sinus infections and sore throats to eye and ear infections, abdominal and stomach pain, joint pain and work-related injuries. TrustCare also offers wellness exams, physicals and allergy testing and treatment.
TrustCare’s walk-in clinic hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-7 p.m.
