The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released their State Employment and Unemployment Summary for April of 2024.
Unemployment rates were lower in April in 5 states, higher in 2 states, and stable in 43 states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Thirty states had jobless rate increases from a year earlier, 1 state had a decrease, and 19 states and the District had little change.
Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 6 states and was essentially unchanged in 44 states and the District of Columbia in April 2024.
Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 31 states and was essentially unchanged in 19 states and the District.
The current unemployment rate for Mississippi (as of April 2024) stands at 2.8 percent.
For comparison, the unemployment rate for the previous reported month (March 2024) was reported as 3.0 percent.
Mississippi stands at a 0.6 percent decrease from the same point the previous year (April, 2023).
Mississippi's unemployment rate at the beginning of the previous year was 3.9 percent (in January, 2023).
The national unemployment rate currently stands at 3.9 percent.
Mississippi stands at 2.8 percent (a 1.1 percent decrease from the national unemployment rate).
