Tickets Now on Sale for St. Philip’s 45th Annual Bluegrass Mass and Goat Roast
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church invites the community to its beloved 45th Annual Bluegrass Mass and Goat Roast on Sunday, Oct.12, for a day of spirited worship, toe-tapping music and delicious barbecue.
The festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. with a special service featuring bluegrass hymns led by the Vernon Brothers. Expect joyful singing, handclapping, and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages.
Following the service, stick around for a live performance by the Red Hots, taking the stage in the scenic church hollow.
A hearty lunch featuring goat and pulled pork and all the fixings will be served. Guests are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to enjoy the afternoon under the trees. Coolers are welcome.
The Rev. Les Hegwood, rector of St. Philip’s, welcomes all to the festivities.
"The Bluegrass Mass and Goat Roast at St. Philip's has been a tradition for most of the existence of the parish,” he said. “Having started as a fellowship function, the Bluegrass Mass and Goat Roast has grown into a community event that benefits Habitat for Humanity in Jackson. It is a joyful day that I hope all will enjoy.”
The Rev. Marie Smith, associate rector, said she looks forward to enjoying her first Bluegrass Mass and Goat Roast with her husband, Brandon.
“We've heard so much about this tradition and are excited to take part,” she said. “It’s a wonderful way to connect with the community and celebrate together.”
Event chairs Grant Beebe and Prentiss Franklin say the day is about more than just music and food — it's a time for the community to connect.
“Goat Roast is St. Philip’s way of ushering in fall,” said Beebe. “It’s a day filled with faith, friendship and fun for everyone.”
“You don’t have to be Episcopalian to join us,” added Franklin. “All are welcome at St. Philip’s!”
The worship service is free and open to the public. Barbecue lunch tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
