Mary Reid Dixon and Barron Charles Mayfield were married on March 8 at Paris-Yates Chapel in Oxford, which holds a special place in the couple’s heart. As university ambassadors, they first met on its steps while leading campus tours to prospective students. Dr. Wallace Edmond Davis, the bridegroom’s 92 year old grandfather, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Justyn Bennett Dixon, formerly of Madison, now of Shreveport. She is the granddaughter of Patricia Huessner Evans, the late Leslie Wayne Evans, and Mr. and Mrs. John Bennett Dixon. all of Madison.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Scot Lewis Mayfield of Dallas. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hughen Barron of Bryan, Texas, Dr. Wallace Edmond Davis and the late Patsy Davis of Salado, Texas, and the late Charles Edmond Mayfield of Lubbock.
Given in marriage by her parents and accompanied by her father, she wore a silk Mikado ball gown featuring wave origami ruffles, a crumb catcher neckline, and a chapel-length train. To complement her dress, she wore a Chantilly lace bolero, along with a cathedral-length, two-tiered veil adorned with scalloped edges of Chantilly lace. Her bouquet was a long-stemmed creation of all white roses, peonies, and ranunculus, shaped like a snowball.
Maid of honor was Anne Meyer. Bridesmaids included Anna Claire Brock, Briley Kate Clement, Elizabeth Field, Caroline Sanderson, Katie Davoren, Nicole Edwards, Meredith Walker, Merry Alston Farris, Mia Spoerl, Rawlins Curtis, Stella Smith, Sydney Childers, and Yasmine Osman. They wore ice blue strapless faille column gowns with a bow detail. Their garden-style bouquets were various shades of pink and cream roses, soft pink tulips, creamy ranunculus, light green hydrangeas, sweet pea, along with cascading amaranthus and other greenery.
The bride’s proxy was Anne Wylie Moore and program attendant was Caroline Moore, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Moore. Ellen Esslinger, the bridegroom’s cousin, was scripture reader.
Milam Mayfield served as his brother’s best man. Groomsmen were Carter Faeth, Chance Chambers, Christopher Spoerl, David Voell, Gavin Stockstill, Matthew Marhefka, Michael Sharp, Rollins Mayfield, Stephen Chandler, Weston Yoshinobu, William West, Preston Mayfield, brother of the bridegroom, and Sims Dixon, brother of the bride.
The floral displays inside the church included orchids, roses, hydrangeas, and greenery, all a soft palette of pink, white, and green. Flanking the candlelit altar were two floral arrangements. Additional floral accents included bouquets marking the pews, swags on the chapel doors, and an arrangement for the guest book.
Nuptial music featured hymns performed by organist Jason Derrick, and trumpeter John Shuesselin.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the historic Lyric Theatre on the Square in Oxford. When guests arrived, they were greeted at the floral covered doors. As they stepped into the foyer, they passed through velvet curtains held back by floral tiebacks, leading to an arranged table dressed in green and white linen. This table showcased a glass vase with a tall, cascading organic arrangement, a custom guest book, and a piece of art created by Jessie Thorrington for the couple, bearing the Lyric Theatre marquee with “The Mayfields 03.08.25.”
As guests entered the main reception area, they were met with a multi-tiered wedding cake which featured smooth, pale mint-hued frosting and intricate antique ruffled and textured details. It was adorned with a cascade of fresh flowers including roses, tulips, spray roses, and snapdragons, woven with layers of green hydrangeas and trailing foliage.
During the cocktail hour guests enjoyed champagne, wine, signature cocktails of Texas style ranch waters with a tajin rim, old fashions, and an assortment of hors d’oeuvres including mini fried chicken bite skewers, mini crab cakes with remoulade and savory shortbread with whipped ricotta and marinated tomatoes.
Dining stations were set up throughout the Lyric. On the second level the bridegroom’s cake was featured. The cake was shaped like the state of Texas and decorated to replicate the Texas state flag
Music was presented by the Phunky Monkeys, a 12 piece band from New Orleans. The couple’s first dance was to Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. The bride and her father danced to The Way You Look Tonight, and the bridegroom and his mother followed with Days Like This.
As the reception drew to an end, the band guided guests in a second line out through the foyer where guests were given party pictures and cake in to-go boxes. The couple exited through a tunnel of streamers before leaving in a vintage Rolls Royce.
The Isom Place was the setting for pre-nuptial events including the bridesmaid luncheon hosted by the bride’s grandmothers, Becky Dixon and Pat Evans. That evening, the historic home was the setting for a cocktail party and seated rehearsal dinner hosted by the bridegroom’s parents.. Following the rehearsal dinner, a Post Toast party was given by friends of the bride’s family in the garden.
After a wedding trip in Paris and Nice, the couple are at home in Lubbock, where the bridegroom is a student at Texas Tech University Law School and the bride is an analyst for Sixth Street Partners.
