After 102 years in this world, Dorothy Garrett Scruggs passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 17, 2026, at Willow Creek Nursing Home. She was born in Crystal Springs on September 17, 1923, to Annie V. Sharp Garrett and Purvis C. Garrett. She was a member of FBC in Madison and she loved the Lord.
Miss Dot was known for her kindness, warmth, and generous spirit. She especially enjoyed spending hours in the kitchen, hosting meals and delivering homemade sand tarts to friends and family. Her biggest joy was being a mother along with being the best Granny to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family with all her heart.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sharon Scruggs (George Hollingsworth) and Pamela Sue Womack (Charles Jason Womack); her grandchildren, Leslie Davis (Amy Davis) and Adrian Halbert, Brooke Womack, Rivers Womack and Lake Womack; great grandchildren, Owen Davis, Wyatt Halbert and Knox Halbert; and her brother, Mike Garrett of Alvin, Texas.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Willow Creek Retirement Home in Byram. Special thanks to her personal caregiver, Linda Sample, for her compassion these past years. Also, the deepest gratitude to all who served her as her family cared for her. The years of cards, meals, prayers, taking her to church services and family celebrations meant more than any of you will ever know.
