Drivers should notice a smoother ride on East County Line Road from Pear Orchard Road to Old Canton Road.
The resurfacing project has already greatly improved that stretch of East County Line Road while work continues from Pear Orchard to Wheatley Street.
East County Line Road from Wheatley Street to Old Canton Road is expected to be resurfaced and have temporary markings by today, June 14.
The project should be totally complete by June 28, said Ridgeland Mayor Gene F. McGee.
A.J. Construction began the work on April 1.
The city of Jackson and the city of Ridgeland took the first step in 2022 toward the $2 million project to resurface East County Line Road from South Wheatley Street to Old Canton Road when they signed an interlocal agreement needed for the project.
East County Line Road from South Wheatley Street to Old Canton Road lies along the corporate limits of Jackson and Ridgeland, with the north half of the street in Ridgeland and the south half in Jackson.
The project includes milling, adding an overlay of asphalt and re-striping the surface of the road. Some concrete repairs will be made and new traffic detection devices will be added to the poles already in place at East County Line Road and South Wheatley Street, East County Line and Pear Orchard Road, East County Line Road and Avery Boulevard and East County Line Road and Old Canton Road.
That segment of East County Line Road was last resurfaced in 2007-2008 and had begun to show wear and tear.
The city of Ridgeland submitted a pavement project application in October 2021 to the Jackson Metropolitan Planning Organization to seek federal funding for the construction and construction engineering costs associated with the project.
The project costs about $2 million, with the city of Jackson and the city of Ridgeland each kicking in $240,100 and federal funding providing the rest.
The city of Ridgeland is responsible for all construction and construction administration of the project.
“We want to have good streets for our citizens to travel and to support our businesses,” McGee said. “It’s a win-win for Jackson and Ridgeland.”
East County Line Road from Ridgewood Road to South Wheatley Street was rehabbed in 2018. Dickerson and Bowen handled the $1.35 million project that included a repair, mill, overlay and restripe plus upgrades to traffic signals.
