Emma George Hamilton passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, in Jackson.
She was born in Jackson on March 18, 1931, to Joseph Warren Carr and Ellen Cooper Smith Carr. Emma George was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
Emma George danced her way through the Delta to the Mississippi University for Women and on to Ole Miss, where she majored in music and was a member of the Tri-Delta sorority. She worked as a tax auditor for the IRS for 35 years after a stint as a public school music teacher. After retirement, she continued to work part-time for several accountants while delicately balancing multiple bridge groups and the Matrons and Meh Lady luncheon clubs. She was known by all for her generous and fun-loving personality, her love for life, live music and dancing. She enjoyed singing in the church choir at St. Andrew’s Cathedral, playing bingo at the Jackson Yacht Club and was a member of both the Junior League of Jackson and the Debutante Mothers Club. She was a selfless advocate for others, and she never met a stranger.
Emma George is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Dillard and Elizabeth Hamilton Ingram (Patrick); grandchildren, Ellen Cooper Dillard (Mae Pate) and Jack Ingram; and nephew, Warren Jones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Kossuth Dewitt Hamilton, and her sister, Penelope C. Hutcherson. Services will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Cathedral with visitation at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Stewpot Community Services or a charity of your choice.
