The Madison County Supervisors and all those who worked on Reunion Parkway plan to celebrate the accomplishment with a ribbon-cutting on Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.
The completion is the latest milestone in Madison County, where numerous road improvement projects are in various stages.
In May 2024, the Madison County supervisors approved a $250 million, 10-year plan to fund road projects to address traffic congestion.
Work is under way on many of the projects, although every project is not at a stage visible to drivers.
“Seventy-five percent of a job is completed before the first shovel of dirt is turned,” said Tim Bryan, Madison County engineer.
The supervisors recently received a quarterly update from the engineers responsible for various projects. Among the projects discussed were:
Calhoun Station Parkway
The supervisors approved and awarded the contract to Hemphill Construction Co. for $7.42 million for the two-mile project to widen from two lanes to four lanes Calhoun Station Parkway from Stout Road to Mississippi Highway 22.
Stantec Consulting Services received the contract for construction engineering and inspection. Stantec’s project fee is not to exceed $456,579.
Final plans are scheduled to be submitted in May 2026. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2026 and is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
Stribling Road from Highway 463 to Dewees Road
In the next three months, there will be continued development of preliminary design drawings, which will include demolition, construction sequencing, roadway plan/profile and storm drainage and the design of intersection improvements at Camden Crossing intersection will begin. A round-about is being considered for the intersection at Camden Crossing.
Also starting in the next three months will be the title work for right-of-way acquisition and boundary survey work for parcels that will need to be acquired. An additional topographic survey for the Hartfield entrance relocation and Camden Crossing intersection improvements will begin.
Also on the agenda in the next three months is the coordination of a second meeting with Hartfield Homeowners Association about the relocation of the entrance. Construction is scheduled to start in the later part of 2028.
Stribling Road improvements from Dewees Road to Catlett Road at Red Fox Lane
Stribling Road is the focus of a three-phase project. The first phase that involves Stribling Road is the widening of Catlett Road from Stribling Road to Stribling Road Extension from two to three lanes.
“That construction will start in nine to 12 months,” said Tim Bryan, Madison County engineer. “Currently, the utilities are being moved, which is the final step before construction starts.”
Construction on Stribling Road from Highway 463 to Deweese Road and from Dewees Road to Catlett Road have the same priority, he said.
The acquisition of right-of-way and getting the utilities moved will determine whether construction first begins on Stribling Road from Highway 463 to Dewees Road or from Dewees Road to Catlett Road.
“If work gets done for both segments at the same time, the higher priority will be the segment from Dewees Road to Catlett Road,” Bryan said. “That includes the Ashbrook and Lake Caroline entrances and that is the most congested part of Stribling Road.”
Weisenberger Road from U.S. Highway 51 to Parkway East
The environmental assessment is on track to be completed by June 2026 and the design work is on track to be completed by September 2027. The project is to five-lane Weisenberger Road from U.S. Highway 51 to Parkway East.
Ten utilities will be impacted by the project, which is just 7/10 of a mile in length, and work must be coordinated with Canadian National Railroad because there is a railroad crossing involved.
Bear Creek Water Association will prepare a hydraulic model of Bear Creek to combine two flood plains into one, minimizing as much as possible the new length and height required of the new bridge; extensive coordination with the Federal Emergency Management Agency is required.
Yandell Road from U.S. Highway 51 to Smith Carr Road and Smith Carr Road to North Old Canton Road
The conceptual roadway design has been completed, and the environmental assessment is expected to be completed by December. The preliminary design is anticipated to be completed by June 2026, and the final design by December 2026.
Twelve utility providers have been identified within the project limits and contact has been initiated with each provided to confirm the existing location of facilities.
The project is early in the design stage. The design will treat both segments as one.
The final design is expected by the end of 2026, with construction starting in 2027 and taking about two years.
Yandell Road signal installation at North Old Canton Road
The survey work is completed, and numerous reports have been finished. The field inspection plans were submitted to the Mississippi Department of Transportation in September, and a field inspection meeting took place in October.
The plans for the bridge are 90 percent complete and are waiting on environmental permits, right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation.
Bozeman Road Phase 1 and Phase 2
Construction on the first phase of Bozeman Road from Mississippi 463 to Reunion Parkway, which includes widening the road and adding a multi-use trail, is expected to be done in about 18 months.
As soon as the first phase is complete, the second phase from Reunion Parkway to Gluckstadt will get under way and take about 18 months to complete.
Information about road construction is communicated via the Madison County Facebook page and website and the contractor responsible for the work will often link to that on the company’s social media. “We want to engage the public as much as we can,” Bryan said.
