JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A former employee in a central Mississippi county has been found guilty of embezzlement.
Tony Macon was arrested in December 2020 after illegally taking nearly $50,000 from Scott County through the use of Fuelman cards to buy fuel for his personal use. White's office did not provide details on where Macon worked in the county.
State Auditor Shad White, in a news release Wednesday, said Scott County Circuit Court Judge Mark Duncan sentenced Macon Tuesday to five years in prison and five years of supervision after his release. He also was ordered to pay nearly $60,000 in restitution and fines.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for theft in the Auditor’s Office, and people need to know there are serious consequences for embezzlement in Mississippi,” White said. “I am thankful to the investigators and prosecutors for their hard work.”
