FMOL Health | St. Dominic welcomed students, community members and media on Tues., Mar. 17, for an interactive exhibition featuring Intuitive’s da Vinci Mobile System and its latest software upgrade. It was a rare, hands‑on look at da Vinci’s fifth-generation system and the most advanced robotic surgery technology available in Miss.
High school students exploring healthcare careers joined clinicians and journalists to experience the da Vinci 5 System’s capabilities firsthand. The event highlighted the latest advancements and the rapid modernization of the robotic surgery program at FMOL Health | St. Dominic.
Since the da Vinci 5 Mobile System first arrived in June 2025, FMOL Health | St. Dominic has become the first large, multi‑system program in Miss. to completely standardize the fifth‑generation da Vinci technology.
“We now operate six da Vinci 5 Systems. A process that previously took years during earlier generational upgrades, was completed in just six months in Jackson,” said Jeremy Tinnerello, regional president, FMOL Health | St. Dominic and FMOL Health | St. Francis.
Attendees had the opportunity to explore the system’s newest features, including the significant P1.2 upgrade, which introduced real‑time force‑sensing visualization, telepresence capabilities, procedural review tools and integrated simulation.
“The consult feature enhances collaboration between surgeons and supports even better outcomes for our patients. The added perspective contributed to an excellent result in a recent case, said Dr. Paul Seago, GYN oncologist and surgeon with St. Dominic’s Gynecologic Oncology.
Key Advancements in the da Vinci 5 System (P1.2 Upgrade)
• Surgeons can now see, in real time, the precise amount of force (in Newtons) applied to tissue, paired with the first‑ever ability to feel tension through the heads‑up display.
• Telepresence and telecollaboration allow a surgeon to join a colleague’s procedure remotely from a mobile device and appear directly in the operating surgeon’s heads‑up display.
• Surgeons can scroll back through a live procedure to review or highlight specific steps for remote collaborators.
• Integrated simulation enables surgeons to train and refine skills on the same system used for live procedures.
Program Advancements at FMOL Health | St. Dominic
• FMOL Health | St. Dominic is the first large, multi‑system program in Mississippi to fully standardize to the da Vinci 5 platform.
• The hospital now operates six da Vinci 5 Systems, with combined computing power equivalent to 60,000 Gen4 Xi systems.
• All Gen4 Xi systems were upgraded to da Vinci 5 in just six months.
• The program now incorporates simulation, telecollaboration and expanded training opportunities for students and clinicians.
FMOL Health | St. Dominic continues to invest in advanced technology and workforce development to support the next generation of healthcare professionals and expand access to high‑quality surgical care across Mississippi.
