Traffic lights at two major Northside intersections will likely be malfunctioning for at least another week, according to city of Jackson officials.
Last week, lights were out at the intersections of Old Canton Road and Ridgewood Road, and Briarwood Drive and the I-55 North exit ramp.
The Old Canton and Ridgewood lights were back on Friday.
Last week marked the second time signals at both intersections had gone out this year.
City officials had placed temporary stop signs at both locations (They had been removed from the Old Canton intersection Friday afternoon) and at press time were planning to get quotes from outside contractors to repair lights at both areas.
Mechanical issues had been cited for the malfunctions.
Jennifer Yarborough, who travels both roadways each day, doesn’t understand why the repairs will take another week.
“The one at Briarwood has already been out for a week. They should’ve already hired someone,” she said.
She also wonders why JPD hasn’t been on site monitoring the situation. One wreck had resulted at each intersection.
Officers were directing at the Briarwood lights on the evening of January 25 after the wreck there.
The city did not have a timeframe for when the lights would be in working order.
The intersections are two of Jackson’s busiest. In that area, Ridgewood averages around 14,000 vehicles a day, while Old Canton averages between 19,000 and 25,000.
The intersection is often used by Northsiders driving to and from Jackson Academy.
The Briarwood site is traveled by about 9,400 cars a day, according to Mississippi Department of Transportation traffic volume maps.
