Jackson will be accepting bids for a new zoo management firm until November 1.
The city recently issued a request for proposals this morning for a new group to oversee operations at the Jackson Zoological Park.
The move comes months after the Jackson Zoological Society, the current managers, voted to study moving the zoo to Northeast Jackson, and weeks after the former zoo director was forced to resign for misspending state bond proceeds.
The park is located at 2918 W. Capitol St., in West Jackson.
Since 2003, attendance at the park has dropped by about 80,000 visitors a year. Studies conducted by private consultants show that the park’s location has been a major deterrent.
