The City of Gluckstadt will break ground on the land for its police department and municipal court after the new year.
The city has obtained two acres of land for a building to house the two departments that are currently run out of City Hall. The parcel of land was obtained from developer Anthony Morrison, who is of no relation to the mayor and has been developing many retail and restaurant sites in the new city. Anthony sold the city one acre of the land at his cost and donated the second acre at no cost to the city.
“This exhibits Mr. Morrison’s commitment to our city, his desire that the city grow and prosper and his willingness to forgo immediate profit for the greater good of the city,” Mayor Walter Morrison said. “I cannot thank Mr. Morrison enough for his generosity.”
Anthony said he and his wife, Alexa, are thankful to be at a point in their lives where they can make a donation that will continue to serve the community for years to come.
“The safety of the people that live in Gluckstadt, as well as the businesses that operate here, is vital to the continued growth and prosperity of the city,” Anthony said. “As both developers and business owners who plan to be here long term, the decision to make this donation was an easy one for us.”
Last legislative session, the legislature appropriated $1,000,000 for the purpose of building a police department and municipal court building.
“I want to especially thank Speaker Philip Gunn, Lieutenant Governor Hosemann, Senators Walter Michel, Josh Harkins, Briggs Hopson and Representatives Jill Ford, Karl Oliver and John Read,” the Mayor said. “Without their hard work and dedication to helping the City get started, none of this would have been possible.”
