The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office will soon have a substation upstairs in Highland Village that will be used for administrative purposes.
Highland Village donated the office space that is across from Aplos restaurant several months ago, said Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.
The office space, which is not highly visible, will not be a place for the public to report an incident.
One or two employees will work at the substation during regular business hours and deputies could use the office during the day or after business hours to complete paperwork, he said.
Shoppers may see sheriff’s deputies in and out of the office after it is in use, Jones said, but never as many as five, six or seven at a time.
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office has jurisdiction in the city of Jackson, but the Jackson Police Department will still have primary responsibility for the Highland Village area, he said.
“We are not assuming primary patrol responsibilities for Highland Village,” Jones said.
Jones expects the office to be ready in “the next couple of weeks.” The Hinds County Supervisors approved during their Oct. 17 meeting equipping the office with internet, cable television and telephones.
The supervisors approved adding internet, cable and phones for $414.55 monthly, four data drops for $169.95 monthly, five unified communication seats for $159.70 monthly, cable TV hookup for $84.90 monthly and a one-time installation fee of $199.
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office also has a substation on Lakeland Cove, which is off Lakeland Drive.
