Jackson Choral Society’s Fall 2025 concert, Sacred and Secular Music by Women Composers will be on November 23 at 3PM in Jackson at St Philips Episcopal Church, 5400 Old Canton Road. A reception will follow the concert.
The concert features a variety of works that span the ages, with compositions from the Middle Ages to the present. The rich collection of works includes Hildegard von Bingham, German Benedictine abbess, writer, and visionary of the High Middle Ages; Maddalena Casulana, Italian composer of the 16th century, author of the first printed work of music by a woman in Western music history, Clara Schumann, Romantic era German composer, as well as 20th century and contemporary women composers. The concert will be a rare opportunity to hear the richness, beauty and tenderness of music composed by women in a wide variety of styles and genres.
JCS’s Spring 2026 concert theme is Creation, Life and Renewal. The centerpiece of the concert is the work of Dan Forrest, a well-known living composer. Concert Suite from Creation is a choral suite from his longer work entitled Creation. The program will also include a work by the renowned composer John Rutter.
The unique character of these concerts, featuring music chosen by JCS’s Artistic Director, Joanna Hunt, will offer audiences fresh insights into the depth, beauty, and diversity of choral music.
