The Jackson/Hinds Library System (JHLS) proudly extends its sincere gratitude to Farber Specialty Vehicles for the production and delivery of its highly anticipated new bookmobile. This exciting addition marks a significant step forward in expanding access to library resources throughout the City of Jackson and Hinds County.
The new bookmobile represents JHLS’s ongoing commitment to meeting residents where they are, bringing books, technology, and essential library services directly into neighborhoods across the community. From children and families to seniors and individuals with limited transportation, the mobile library will help ensure greater access, engagement, and opportunity for all.
JHLS also extends deep appreciation to its Board of Trustees, the Jackson Friends of the Library (JFOL), and the Bookmobile Committee for their vision, leadership, generous contributions, and unwavering dedication in bringing this long-anticipated project to life. Their collaborative efforts have made it possible to turn this vision into reality.
The community got its first close look at the new bookmobile during a special showcase event hosted in partnership with the Friends of the Library on February 28. The official rollout is tentatively scheduled Spring 2026, with routes and programming details to be announced soon.
"This bookmobile is more than a vehicle-it’s a symbol of access, equity, and connection,” said Jeanne Williams, Executive Director. “We are thrilled to soon place books and resources directly into the hands of our residents. This initiative ensures that transportation, distance, or circumstance are never barriers to opportunity. It’s about meeting people where they are and strengthening our community through literacy, learning, and meaningful connection.”
As JHLS continues to evolve and innovate, the launch of the bookmobile underscores the system’s mission: to remain in the community, for the community.
