Outdoors in the Sun: Drinking coffee, sharing tales
By Jeff North, READ MORE > 5,707 Reads
On Wed, 02/03/2021 - 03:07 PM

There is more to sitting in a hardwood bottom during the bleak winter days with your only agenda being the collection of a species pursued. Don’t get me wrong, wading out of flooded timber with a stringer of greenheads swinging from your shoulder, at times, can be considered an ultimate achievement.

First and foremost, I am not ready for it to end. But ready or not, here it comes. Maybe counseling will be in order to keep deep, dark, depression from setting in. I am open for any suggestions to keep my spirits lifted, for I do not want to become some manic recluse when the gloomy days of February are upon us.

Outdoors in the Sun: Books offer ‘outdoorsy’ enjoyment
By Jeff North, READ MORE > 7,383 Reads
On Wed, 01/20/2021 - 03:07 PM

The embers and coals seemed to pulsate, as heat was transferred from my hearth to my study. The setting could not have been more perfect, as the cold front approached. A distant roll of thunder is quite unusual for January, but sporadically, the rumble resembled that of cannon fire from days long ago.

Outdoors in the Sun: Yellowstone Park - A national treasure

On Wed, 01/13/2021 - 04:00 PM

Days, weeks, and months pass as swiftly as water in a raging torrent from the melting snowpack in the Rocky Mountains. Just yesterday, or so it seems, our topics revolved around the uncertainty of football, an approaching autumn, the peak of the rut, and a fall migration. Most of these subjects, and many others, have made their debut in print.

Outdoors in the Sun: ‘In the kitchen with Jeff’

My apologies for omitting one of the main components of the duck recipe in last week’s article. The trinity, chopped celery, bell pepper, and onion, is a must in not only wild game recipes, but in most other recipes as well. If you have undertaken this task and already prepared this dish without it, I would wager it still turned out very good.

Outdoors in the Sun: Feast on a natural menu

Other than attending virtual conferences and visiting a few of my climbers in some secluded haunts, about the only public places I have been frequenting are the local grocers. I am doing my best to avoid exposure to the ongoing virus crisis, but truthfully, I don’t see how we’re all not going to be exposed, if we already haven’t been.

Outdoors in the Sun: ‘You’ll never forget this one’
By Jeff North, READ MORE > 5,727 Reads

Let’s go back to Kendall County, Texas. I know we’ve been on the topic of the whitetail deer for the past few articles, but we all know “tis the season.” I’m stuck in a multitude of virtual meetings, so if I can’t sit in a climber, at least I can re-visit past hunts and share them with you.

“America’s Funniest Home Videos” shares real life bloopers and hilarious antics that happen to all of us at some point in our lives. Whether it’s turmoil with decorating the Christmas tree, walking the dog, or testing our “skills” on the trampoline, we never know what may be captured when the camera is rolling.

As previously mentioned in my last article, I’m not sure where I will be when this one runs. So far, so good, with any Covid symptoms, but this may have changed by the time you are reading this. I know I am at least two topics ahead and still in my office today writing.

Outdoors in the Sun: Take a minute to think about all you are thankful for

With several articles under my belt to meet deadlines for Thanksgiving, I’m not quite sure when they will arrive at your doorsteps. I am churning to not only get ahead, but stay ahead, as well. I may be on my way to the mid-west, in the mid-west, or returning home from the mid-west when Jimmye and company edit and print.
