Jennifer West, the newly hired neighborhood services manager for the city of Jackson, introduced herself to members of JXN UNITED during the group’s September meeting.
It was an opportunity for West because JXN UNITED is composed of representatives of numerous homeowners’ associations.
She informed JXN UNITED members that the city plans to roll out a new website for code enforcement on Oct. 1 that will make it easier to report code violations and keep track of them.
West, a resident of Jackson for 18 years, served as the president of the Jackson Association of Neighborhoods from 2018-2022.
“I like working with neighborhoods,” said West, who served as president of the Midtown Neighborhood Association. “This is my passion project.”
West began work in August and is currently trying to meet with as many neighborhood associations as possible.
“My motto is ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’” she said. “We have to get back to that.”
West, who is the first neighborhood services manager for the city of Jackson, is responsible for fostering collaborative relationships with community residents and neighborhood organizations, facilitating neighborhood and community-based problem-solving, meeting with community leaders, neighborhood organizations and citizens about neighborhood issues, planning and working with neighborhood associations on community self-help activities and creating and maintaining ongoing engagement platform.
She will also participate in the development and implementation of the city’s comprehensive plan, conduct community information meetings, seminars and in-house training on department programs and issues, participate in the development of policies and programs to address neighborhood needs and participate in the development and implementation of programs using federal, state and local funds.
The ordinance establishing the position set the annual compensation range from $51,588.24 to $62,385.12.
