The 50th Birthday Party for LEMURIA BOOKS BOOKSTORE in JACKSON, MS began to be held at CATHEAD VODKA DISTILLERY'S DOWNTOWN SITE at 11 AM on the Saturday after easter, which is Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11 AM. Admission is free until 2PM, after 2 PM is adults only and non-free monetary charge for admission.
Lemuria books has been in the Evans family since 1976, over 50 years, in Jackson, Mississippi, being at their current location in Banner Hall Shopping Center since the late 1980s.
In the early hours of the celebration, there were a few dozen people at the distillery location at 12 PM Noon in Downtown Jackson.
Joe Tucker, who is a security guard from Law Security, agreed to be photographed. He is here at 12 PM Noon in Downtown Jackson at Cathead Vodka Distillery in downtown Jackson. He said he works for Law Security Group around Terry, Mississippi, on most days.
A book reading for children hosted by LEMURIA BOOKS occurred on site at Cathead Distillery, at the edge the grassy space on their west end of the premises where they hold events.
The books read to the children and their families were books from the "Paddington Bear" book series for children, which was read over the loudspeaker.
The event was hosted by Lemuria Books and Cathead Distillery, businesses both related to the family of John Evans.
The Cathead Vodka Distillery and LEMURIA BOOKS have both been owned by separate members of the Evans' family since John Evans started Lemuria and Arthur Evans started Cathead Distillery. Cathead has two main owners, including Mr. Arthur Evans.
John Emmerich, reporter for the Northside Sun, visited the site of the 50th Birthday party from 11:45 AM to 12:48 PM in the Afternoon during the free segment that goes on until 2 PM on April 11 2026. He had food on-site.
Food on site included the Pizza from Azariah's Pizza, a local food truck, Iced Lemonade stand lemonade, and barbecue from Barbecue Shine, a local barbecue restaurant.
The Northside Sun took photos with permission of the people in each photo.
The photos of those whose names are document we specifically asked for permission and were granted permission to take photos of them.
Above are a few photos we published here today, April 11, 2026, at 1:33 PM.
Everyone at the free portion wore either orange wristbands indicating alcohol consuption or green indicating "Not consumption of alcohol."
Because John Emmerich did not drink at this event, he chose to get the green wristband and did not ask for alcohol from any of the bartenders, only to ask if they wanted to be in the Northside Sun newspaper in Jackson.
