Dear Editor:
The national news media are a disappointment, and it seems that your local newspaper falls into the same category.
I read in bewilderment your column of January 28, 2021, in which you consider Trump "an embarrassment to our nation." Speak for yourself because you obviously favor style over substance. Trump was anything but "an embarrassment" to me. He understood the economy, our trade imbalance, the importance of constitutionalist judges, proper treatment of our veterans, our military readiness, government regulation and its effect on progress, etc. From my point of view, Trump was all substance which was so welcome after such Bravo Sierra Bipartisanship. Politicians who are more concerned with working across the aisle than representing their constituents' wishes are the reason we are suffering now as a country. You'd have to be addled to want a politician over a businessman for president as you do. Politicians let diplomacy, bipartisanship, and decorum become more important than the job at hand. Trump is all the things that politicians are not, and he can't be bought. It's disgraceful to see how quickly elected politicians will sell out for a buck.
When you lately wrote off election fraud as "garden variety" cheating, it is shockingly dismissive. Your news sources are obviously different than mine. If your dignity was offended by Trump, mine was offended by your dismissiveness. It is a fact that for thousands of ballots, there was no chain of custody, ballots were allowed to be counted without required signatures or dates, pallets of ballots arrived in the wee hours of the morning, ballot boxes were stuffed repeatedly, the dead voted, post office box addresses voted, multiple votes were counted repeatedly from the same address... there were enough "votes" to flip a state after prolonged counting, and enough to steal the election. But, then again, Biden won the election with 81 million votes if you can believe that.
The January 6 committee is a complete farce, televised propaganda, and illegitimate. Republicans have been denied the right to seat their own members, there are no rebuttals or cross examinations allowed to the outrageous claims. It's a replay of the Mueller investigation and the Russian collusion, and a very convenient forum for the Never Trumpers. It's naive to believe that there could be a reasonable investigation. If there's any indication from primaries of late, Trump is even more relevant. Time will tell. Yes, "character matters" and Trump has plenty, and his mental faculties to boot. And you believed the claims of "Trump's mental instability" as you write in 2021. I think you were misled and confused. Perhaps you're the one who should do "some serious soul searching" when you question others' patriotism.
