I spent a week in Dallas in March and, without a doubt, bold is in. As I’m sure everyone knows, Dallas is about two things: shopping and restaurants. So, I spent my week hopping from one store to another and learned that if you want to be in style this season, you better add some color to your closet.
I love neutrals, and I think they are always a safe bet. However, the stores were full of bright red, deep blue, neon green, and summer orange; and, as much as I love my neutrals, I always find it fun to get out of my comfort zone and wear some color. I have a few favorite ways to wear bold colors: a pop, monochromatic, and mix and match.
A POP: The first one is the easiest way to style bold colors – it will keep you in your comfort zone but add a flare of fun. Shoes are the no-brainer way to accomplish this look, but don’t be afraid to bring color to another element of the outfit instead. Here are a few outfit ideas:
White blouse, black leather pants, green heals
Black tank, light-wash straight leg jeans, red sneakers
Green dress, gray blazer, white sneakers
I utilize this styling option often. It is a simple way to follow the trend without fear of overdoing it. It is subtle but effective. If color isn’t your forte, start with just a pop.
MONOCHROMATIC: This style option is one of my favorites to utilize in the summer with white. For instance, a white tank, lightweight linen pants, and white and gray snakeskin heels – I love that outfit. However, monochromaticity can be used with any and every color and is the perfect way to be in style this season. I’ve been very into green lately and the outfit I described above can be swapped out for green: a lighter shade of green tank top, flared green dress pants, and I even have some green heels. You can also consider throwing in a blazer to complete the look. Whether your color is green, pink, red, or blue, this style sequence is sure to keep you on trend and turn heads (in a good way).
MIX AND MATCH: My final way to style the bold colors that are in this season is using multiple bold colors in one outfit. This one requires a bit more thought but can serve a stunning look if done correctly. When styling this, you want to use colors that are entirely different from one another. One way I have done this is using the primary colors: black tank, bright blue mid-length silk skirt, neon yellow shoes, and a red purse. That look is a bit different and may not be for everybody, but you can play with it to find what works for you. One mix and match look I have coming up is what I will be wearing to my friend’s wedding. The dress color is labeled as “moss” and is a light green, and I’m pairing it with pink heels. This is a great way to be on trend and doesn’t require as bold of colors because wearing vastly different colors together is bold in itself.
The important thing to remember when styling this season is to not shy away from something that may be different from your usual look. Bold colors are such a fun way to switch it up and can help you move with more confidence throughout your day knowing you killed the look. Experiment with color and have some fun!
