Dr. Kermit Till, 86, of Jackson passed away on January 15, 2022. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at Parkway Funeral Home. Rev Brister Ware will officiate. The family will be accepting friends on Wednesday from 1:00 until time of service.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and family physician, Dr. Till was born on June 16, 1935 in Puckett, MS to Walter Ray and Zelma Till. He was married for 61 years to Bettie Frazier Till, his high school sweetheart. After graduating from Belzoni High School he volunteered for service with the US Army. He was selected to enter the Army Security and trained at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and served in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean War. After his army service, he entered Millsaps College and graduated from University Medical Center in 1960.
As a family physician in Jackson for over 43 years, he served three generations of patients who revered him for the manner in which he treated them as friends. He wrote several books, one of which was titled The Romance of Medicine. He wrote several other books. Among them were The Bitterroot Wolf and a Book of Short Stories. He served on the staff of Baptist, St. Dominic’s, Hinds General, Rankin Medical and River Oaks Hospitals. He was an active community member and served as the football team physician at Millsaps College for many years where he was given an Outstanding Service Award. He also served on the boards of the American Heart and Cancer Associations. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for fifty years and served as president of the Fellowship Sunday school class.
He is survived by his four children, Cynthia Till, Terri Till Clement (Bob), Glen Till, Andy Till (Lori), grandchildren, Christopher Berry, Nicholas Berry, Emily Clement, Rachel Clement, Trey Till, Kayla Till and Riley Till.
