Estelle Noel Mockbee, 78, died Friday, October 13, 2023, at Lakeland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Sebrell Funeral Home with interment to follow at a later date in the Natchez City Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Jackson, Estelle was born on March 30, 1945, to the late John Armstead Noel and the late Estelle Carson Pullen Noel. She was educated in the Jackson Public Schools and graduated from Millsaps College with a B.S. degree. During her college years she was presented by the Debutante Club of Mississippi, Inc., in 1964.
Estelle was married in 1966 to Michael Morgan Mockbee, Jr., also a lifelong Jacksonian, and they had one son, Michael Morgan Mockbee, III, who predeceased her on February 16, 1998.
Estelle taught high school mathematics at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Day School before leaving to assist her husband in the computer consultation business until their respective retirements. Her hobbies including cooking, especially with her fresh herbs which she cultivated in her garden, travelling, participating in her exercise classes and Millsaps alumni events where she enjoyed socializing with former classmates. For many years, she and her husband maintained a second home in Fort Morgan, Alabama, where they spent many cherished weekends and extended vacations.
Her primary civic involvement was serving on the Executive Board of the Debutante Club of Mississippi, Inc., for a number of years as Treasurer. She always enjoyed the annual Presentation Ball in late November and attending the rounds of parties during the holiday season.
She was a lifelong member of Galloway United Methodist Church.
Estelle was preceded in death her parents, her son, her sister, Carol Noel McLaurin, and her niece, Brandie Chase Noel. She is survived by her husband, Michael Morgan Mockbee, Jr.; her brother, John Armstead Noel, Jr.; her nephews, John Campbell McLaurin, III, and William Bryan Noel; her niece, Elizabeth Carol McLaurin; and numerous cousins.
