Vivian Steen Thompson, age 89, died on November 24th 2023 in Flowood, Mississippi. Vivian was born in Antioch, Mississippi on May 9th, 1934.
Vivian was raised in Richland (Plain), Mississippi with her two brothers and parents. Vivian attended college at Mississippi College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She went on to pursue a career for many years as a children’s minister at Broadmoor Baptist Church. Vivian raised four children and lived in New Orleans, LA; Jackson, MS; Nashville, TN; Brunswick, GA; and Richland, MS.
In her free time, she enjoyed traveling the world with her late husband, swimming, deep sea fishing, spending time with her family, and volunteering and fellowshipping at Northminster Baptist Church.
Vivian is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Ray Thompson, her parents Morris Webster Steen and Emma Donnell Steen, her sister Virginia, and her brother Webster.
Vivian is survived by her four children: Joy Mason (Jeff), Carol Ballard (Richard), Sharon Pilgrim (Manual), and Don Reeves (Tammy); three step-children: Bryant Thompson (Donna), Holly Thompson, Laurel Griffith (Jim); eleven grandchildren: Jason Pilgrim (Marsha), Stephanie Sullivan (Ken), Anthony Ballard (Holly), Katie Ballard (Jake), Leah Reeves, Kennon Reeves (Emily), Walker Mason (Camille), Wyatt Mason, Aaron Griffith (Eliza), Luke Griffith (Camilla), and Emory Griffith (Meaghan); her brother David Steen (Millie), several great-grandchildren, and countless friends and colleagues.
Vivian’s family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Cooperwood Assisted Living and Peachtree Assisted Living, St. Joseph’s Hospice Care, and countless caregivers that loved and cared for her so well.
The service will be held at Northminster Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 28th with a visitation at 9 am and the service at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to Northminster Baptist Church, Grace House, or a ministry of your choice.
