Wilma Kay Amundson died on September 2, 2023, at age 82 in Madison, MS. She was born in Binghamton, NY on March 31, 1941, to Donald and Anne Friedli. Wilma is survived by her husband Martin, four children, Lydia Mikush of Winter Garden, FL, Meredith Amundson of Raleigh, NC, Andrew Amundson of Bradenton, FL, Eric Amundson (Amy) of Ridgeland, MS and daughter-in-law Denise Amundson of Raleigh, NC. She was predeceased by her oldest son Martin and sister Doris. Nine grandchildren blessed her life: Erin, Neal, Clay, Courtney, Hannah, Melissa, Grant, Elizabeth, and Catherine.
Wilma earned her BA degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan where she met and married Martin. She was a true-blue Michigan Wolverine and football season ticket holder. The family moved to Florida where Martin practiced family medicine. They lived in Sarasota and Bradenton for 45 years. She was a homemaker and office manager for Martin’s practice. She was an active member and communicant of Hope Lutheran Church.
Wilma had a winning smile and a large group of friends with whom she regularly played bridge. She enjoyed watching all sports and traveling around the world with her husband. When her health began to fail, Martin and Wilma moved to St. Catherine’s Village in Madison, MS in 2014.
A memorial service will be held at St. Columb's Episcopal Church, Ridgeland, MS on Friday September 8, 2023, at 11 AM with visitation at 10 AM in the narthex.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
She was known for her kind, generous and loving nature. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones and all those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace.
