The City of Gluckstadt is pleased to announce the appointment of Gluckstadt Assistant Chief Barry Hale as the city’s next Police Chief, promoted by unanimous vote at the October third special called meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen. Chief Hale has served as Assistant Chief in the department since May 2022. With an impressive background in law enforcement and a strong commitment to community safety, Chief Hale brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this vital role. Chief Hale has twenty-one years of distinguished service in law enforcement. Throughout his career, Chief Hale has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to upholding the law, ensuring public safety, and fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community in which it serves.
As Chief of Police, Hale will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Gluckstadt Police Department, implementing effective crime prevention strategies, and maintaining a strong partnership with the community. He will work closely with city officials, other law enforcement agencies, and community organizations to address the evolving needs and concerns of city residents and business owners.
Mayor Walter Morrison expressed confidence in Chief Hale's ability to lead the Gluckstadt Police Department, stating, "Chief Hale has a proven track record of exemplary service and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by our young community. We are thrilled to welcome him as our new Chief of Police and are confident that he will continue to enhance public safety and strengthen the bond between our police force and the residents of Gluckstadt."
Chief Hale expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the Chief of Police, saying, "I am honored to accept the position of Police Chief of the City of Gluckstadt and work alongside the dedicated men and women who serve our community with such integrity. Together, we will strive to maintain a safe and secure environment for all residents, while fostering trust, transparency, and open communication with our community. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen for allowing me the opportunity to step into this important role and for their continued trust and faith in me. I would also like to extend my deepest appreciation to Chief Wats for trusting me as his second in command, and for all of his support and guidance over the last year and a half. It has been such a pleasure working for Chief Wats and he will be missed by all in the department."
Chief Wendell Wats submitted his resignation to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, September 26th aer 16 months with the city. Under his dedicated leadership, the inaugural Gluckstadt Police Department was established. Wats was primarily responsible for overseeing the development of the newly formed department, implementing departmental policies and procedures, hiring officers, purchasing of necessary equipment, management, and day-to-day operations of the force; he also played an integral role in the design and development of the new police department building, set to open its doors in July of 2024.
The City of Gluckstadt is thankful for all accomplished under the tenure of Chief Wats and wishes him the best in his new endeavors.
