The First Annual Southern Select High School Golf Championship held March 15-17 at The Refuge Golf Club in Flowood, MS ,was deemed an excellent success by those participating. Although it rained all three days, complete play was posted on Saturday with an excellent effort by Oak Hill School from West Point MS whose team score of 8 under par for 1st place, followed by Catholic High of Baton Rouge, LA with 7 over par. Rounding out the top three teams was The Memphis Volunteers at plus 16. The participating team medalist was Jacob Blanton of Oak Hill School with a 6 under par, 66. The individual player medalist with a 6 over 78 was Judson Colley from Jackson Prep.
It is also noted that Ms Lucy Cook of Oak Hill School had an excellent round of 74. Other teams competing included Madison Ridgeland Academy of Madison, MS, Presbyterian Christian School from Hattiesburg, MS and Parkview Baptist School from Baton Rouge, LA
The very capable staff at The Refuge did an excellent job keeping the course as playable as possible under the challenging weather conditions and they, like the participants, are looking forward to the 2025 event, the date of which will be announced shortly. Plans are well under way to invite top teams from 8 Southeastern States as well as the best 15 players unattached fin the state rom those teams.
